At this phase, we are replacing 4 old rotten glulam (glued laminated timber) beams with new parallel (PSL or parallel-strand lumber) beams, which is a form of engineered wood made from parallel wood strands bonded together for longevity and extra strength, as well as adding new beams up against the building to take structural load of the new glass canopy to be installed in the coming months.
In order to install new beams, we poured concrete footings for columns and had structural steel columns manufactured to support the combined weight of over 12,000 lbs for all 4 new PSL beams.
Engineering specs of each beam we are installing are:
When completed, we will have installed new gutter and flashing system, as well as Equitone fibre cement siding, which is fire safe, sound insulating and extreme temperature and water-resistant facade material. It is also resistant to many living organisms, such as fungi, bacteria, insects and vermin.
Structural upgrades on beams we are doing will be complimented by new glass canopy for front entry way.
